An Evening with Richard, Duke of Buccleuch and Charles Jencks

The final Crichton Conversation of 2016 took place on Tuesday 6th December. A packed audience of around 250 guests were enthralled by the story of the resurrection of this derelict site into the first Multiverse in the Universe.

Duke Richard began by explaining how the former open-cast mining site was a scar on the landscape and that something had to be done. Charles then mesmerised the audience with his vision for the transformation of the site into the vast and diverse Land Art park it has become. The logistical challenges of moving 2000 stones is a feat in itself and the tenacity of the digger drivers, who operated at some very precarious angles in order to realise the vision, is incredible.

The communities of Upper Nithsdale certainly seem to have taken the Multiverse to their hearts. The next challenge will be to put the Multiverse on the map nationally and internationally.

The Foundation is very grateful to Charles and Duke Richard for a fascinating evening.
