The Crichton Foundation’s Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday 23 September, providing an opportunity not only to reflect on the Foundation’s work over the past year, but also to mark the retirement of Andrew Walls as Convenor.

Andrew has played a significant role in the life of The Crichton Foundation since joining in 2010. He initially served as Chair of the Audit Committee before becoming Vice-Convenor, and in 2013 succeeded Barbara as Convenor. She was a very hard act to follow and Andrew rose to the challenge with dedication, commitment and considerable good humour.

During his tenure, Andrew provided steadfast leadership and support through both challenging periods and many memorable occasions. His contribution has extended well beyond the formal responsibilities of the role, and he has helped shape some particularly significant moments in the Foundation’s recent history.

Among the many highlights were a visit to Sandy Stoddart’s remarkable studio, Andrew’s appearance on the Beechgrove Garden Roadshow, and his good-natured distinction as the only man attending the Women of Dumfries and Galloway Lunch.

Perhaps most memorably, Andrew helped bring the moon to The Crichton through the European Lunar Symposium in 2024 — an event which reflected both his enthusiasm and his commitment to putting The Crichton on an international stage.

The AGM provided a fitting opportunity to recognise and thank Andrew for his years of service, leadership and support. The Foundation will continue to evolve and flourish under the leadership of Kate Thomson as Convenor.

We extend our sincere thanks  to  Andrew for his outstanding contribution to The Crichton Foundation and wish him every happiness for his retirement — from The Crichton Foundation at least!
