It is with great pleasure that we welcome Professor Rex Taylor to deliver the first Crichton Conversation of the 2024-2025 series.
Rex Taylor was founding Director of the University of Glasgow’s Crichton Campus. He held this post from 1997 until his retirement in 2005.
Born in the Orkney Isles, Rex won an Open Scholarship to the University of Durham, where he studied Social Anthropology and went on to complete a doctorate. After teaching posts in the universities of Durham, Kent and Aberdeen, he joined the Medical Research Council. His research and publications on a range of socio-medical issues led to his appointment to the Chair of Social Policy at the University of Glasgow. He was Professor of Social Policy from 1987 until his move to Dumfries.
Since retirement, Rex and his wife, Judy, have assisted with educational projects in Malawi, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. Currently they divide the year between Glasgow and the south of France, where they have converted a winemaker’s house and created a sculpture garden.
This lecture is sponsored by the University of Glasgow
