Dame Deirdre is one of the UK’s most successful public servants having worked in a large number of non-governmental agencies. She has worked in 10 major non departmental agencies and has been an outstanding consumer champion with particular interests in consumer affairs, health and food standards. She chaired the Scottish Consumer Council then the National Consumer Council; was Chair of the Financial Services Authority, a member of the Government Energy Advisory Panel and Vice Chair of the European Food Safety Authority.
