We warmly welcome Dame Frances Cairncross to deliver the opening lecture of the 2018/19 Crichton Conversations. Frances has strong Galloway connections and has been a supportive and energetic Patron of the Crichton Foundation for many years.
Presently Chair of the Court of Heriot Watt University, she is a highly respected economist, academic and journalist and is the former Rector of Exeter College, Oxford. Prior to her decade at Oxford, she spent 13 years on the Guardian as an economic columnist and 20 years at The Economist magazine as a senior editor.
As well as being the author of a number of books, she chairs the Executive Committee of the Institute of Fiscal Studies and in 2001-07 she chaired the Economic and Social Research Council.
Doors open at 7pm with the lecture beginning at 7:30pm prompt. A two-course supper, followed by coffee, will be served after the question and answer sessions close at 9:00pm. Red or white wine will be available for purchase by the glass from Easterbrook Hall. Please note that supper must be pre-booked at least one week in advance of the event. No refunds will be made for cancellations made less than one week before the event.
