James Wolffe is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading legal experts and we are delighted to welcome this distinguished Galloway man to the Crichton. Brought up in Gatehouse of Fleet, he went to primary school there and then on to Kirkcudbright Academy. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and then went up to Balliol College Oxford where he became a Bachelor in Civil Law. He was called to the Scottish Bar in 1992 and took silk in 2007.
He was First Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Ministers from 2002 to 2007, the same year he was appointed Queen’s Counsel. From 2007 to 2010 he served as Advocate Depute. Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2013, James was elected Dean of the Faculty of Advocates in 2014. He was appointed Lord Advocate on the 1st June 2016. The Lord Advocate is the senior law officer of the Scottish Government and is the head of the system of prosecution and investigation of deaths in Scotland.
Doors open at 7pm with the lecture beginning at 7:30pm prompt. A two-course supper, followed by coffee, will be served after the question and answer sessions close at 9:00pm. Red or white wine will be available for purchase by the glass from Easterbrook Hall. Please note that supper must be pre-booked at least one week in advance of the event. No refunds will be made for cancellations made less than one week before the event.
