Crichton Foundation Hardship Fund for Mature Students
The Crichton Foundation Bursaries for Mature Students have been set up to aid those matriculated students aged 26 and over, studying at the Crichton University Campus, who have insufficient funds to manage. Awards are given for course related costs: books, travel, childcare and Hardship. Student Awards Agency and University funding must be taken into account before applying to this fund. Awards are based on financial need. Applications can be submitted at any time during semester 1 or 2.

SCOTTISH STUDIES ( glasgow university students only)
These bursaries would be offered to students of Scottish Studies who may otherwise leave the region or who would not normally aspire to study at Higher Education level. Applicants would need to write a letter demonstrating their commitment to Scottish Studies, accompanied by a letter of support from their Head Teacher. At the end of the year the recipients would need to submit (a) a brief report to the Foundation explaining how the bursary has helped them with their studies and (b) a report from the Adviser of Studies confirming that the recipient has satisfied University of Glasgow achievement levels (particularly if they were intending to re-apply for future year funding).
The letter should be addressed to directly to Lynne White, Crichton Foundation, Browne House , Crichton University campus, Dumfries , DG1 4ZZ .
The Carson Reaching Potential Bursaries – ( University of Paisley , Bell College and University of Glasgow )
Six bursaries of £500 each for a 1-year period
Students who are, or have been an HNC/HND course at College and who wish to progress to degree level at Crichton University Campus in order to reach their full potential.
Students could re-apply for further year funding although priority would be given to first time applicants. In extenuating circumstances applications can be made to the Holywood Trust or the Crichton Foundation Mature Students Bursaries for additional funding.

Between £100 and £500 depending on circumstances. Closing
Date
There is no closing date. Applications can be submitted at
any time during Semester 1 or 2.
Grant
Eligibility
- Applicants
must be full-time or part-time matriculated students of
either University
of Glasgow - Crichton Campus, University of Paisley - Dumfries
Campus or Bell
College of Nursing - Dumfries Campus.
- Applicants
must be 26 years or over on the date of application
- Applicants
must be in financial hardship
- Applicants
must have applied for the maximum student loan
- Applicants
must have applied for University Funds prior to application
for The Crichton Foundation bursaries
- Only
one grant application per student can be made per annum,
unless exceptional circumstances can be determined
How
to Apply
- Applicants
must complete an application form which is available from
the Student Support Officer
- Applications
made be made at any time during Semester 1 or Semester 2.
- Applicants
must fulfil all the above eligibility criteria
- Full
supporting documentation must be provided with the application
form, otherwise processing of applications may be delayed.
Photocopied evidence of:
Lease or Rent Book or proof of mortgage payments
Last Bank Statement
Cashline slip from day of application
Evidence of childcare costs
Any other relevant documents
Administration
of Grant Applications
Applicants will be requested to have a brief interview with
the Student Support
Officer, usually within 3 working days of submitting a completed
application form
with full supporting documentation
The
Student Support Officer will assess the eligibility for a
bursary and submit a recommendation to The Crichton Foundation
within 5 working days of the interview
A decision
will be given verbally by The Crichton Foundation to the Student
Support Officer within 2 working days of receiving the Student
Support Officer's recommendations. The Student Support Officer
will notify the student verbally, by telephone or in person,
or by email.
A cheque
for the recommended amount will be issued to the Student Support
Officer by The Crichton Foundation within 2 working days of
the verbal decision, wherever possible, and issued to the
applicant by the Student Support Officer
Appeals
If a student disagrees with the recommendation of the Student
Support Officer, a written submission must be made directly
to the Student Support Officer detailing reasons.
This report
will be submitted to The Crichton Foundation and discussed
at the next meeting of the Awards and Grants Committee which
meets quarterly (dates can be obtained from the Administrator
of The Crichton Foundation at Browne House, Crichton University
Campus, Dumfries, DG1 4ZZ).
